Segensworth tip opens 9am to 4pm from 1 October, shut 1pm to 1.30pm, closed 25 and 26 Dec and 1 Jan. Every visit must be booked, up to a week ahead.
Fareham’s tip is the Segensworth Household Waste Recycling Centre on Barnes Wallis Road, PO15 5TS. From 1 October it is open 9am to 4pm, seven days a week, and it closes for half an hour at lunchtime, 1pm to 1.30pm. You cannot just turn up: every visit to a Hampshire recycling centre has to be booked (Hampshire County Council).
The tip is run by Hampshire County Council, not Fareham Borough Council, which is why your bin collections and your tip trips are booked in different places.

Opening hours through the year
| Period | Hours |
|---|---|
| 1 October to 28 February | 9am to 4pm |
| 1 March to 31 March | 9am to 5pm |
| 1 April to 30 September | 9am to 6pm |
| Every day | Closed 1pm to 1.30pm |
| Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day | Closed |
In 2026 Christmas Day is a Friday, Boxing Day is Saturday 26 December and the Boxing Day bank holiday is Monday 28 December (GOV.UK). Hampshire’s page says the site closes on “Boxing Day” without saying which date it means, so check the booking system before planning a trip on either the 26th or the 28th. New Year’s Day is Friday 1 January 2027.
How to book
Book on Hampshire’s recycling centre booking page or in the OurHants app. Slots can be booked up to one week in advance, and you can change or cancel using the link in your confirmation email. When you book, you give the address the waste comes from and say whether you are bringing any DIY waste.
A van, pick-up or trailer may need a permit; the council’s site has a checker. Residents of Portsmouth and Southampton can also use Hampshire’s recycling centres.
The nearest other tips
If Segensworth has no slots, these Hampshire-run sites keep the same seasonal hours and the same lunchtime closure rule applies at Gosport (Hampshire HWRC finder):
- Gosport, Grange Road, PO13 8AS
- Portsmouth, Paulsgrove Portway, PO6 4UD
- Netley, Grange Road, SO31 5FF
- Bishops Waltham, Claylands Road, SO32 1BH
What Segensworth takes
The site accepts the usual household items, including garden waste, cardboard, electricals, mattresses, carpets, furniture, wood and real Christmas trees, which go in the green waste container. It is also one of 11 Hampshire sites licensed to take household chemicals, paint and pesticides, up to five litres a month per household in sealed containers.
Four things are limited or charged:
- DIY waste (rubble, soil, plasterboard, bathroom fittings) is free up to eight 50-litre rubble sacks or four single items per household every four weeks. Anything above that is charged, and waste from work done by a tradesperson never counts as free (Hampshire County Council).
- Fridges and freezers are accepted whole, but the county warns that a national shortage of recycling capacity means a site may have to turn them away once its storage is full.
- Railway sleepers are no longer accepted, because the Environment Agency classes them as hazardous waste wood.
- Sofas and upholstered chairs should be kept whole, because they may contain persistent organic pollutants and go in a separate container.
At Christmas
Real trees can go to Segensworth in the green waste. Fareham Borough Council also collects trees at the kerb in January for garden waste subscribers, and last year it ran a free tree collection for every household; the 2026/27 details are on our Christmas bins page as soon as the council publishes them.
