Fareham has not yet published its Christmas 2026 bin days. Last year's went up by mid October; here is the 2025 table and the free tree collection it ran.
Fareham Borough Council has not yet published its revised bin days for Christmas and New Year 2026/27. Its bank holiday page, checked on 25 September 2026, says only that “information about Christmas 2026 bin collections will be available nearer the time” (Fareham Borough Council).
Last year’s table was already on that page by 11 October 2025, so the 2026 dates should appear within the next few weeks. This page will carry them as soon as they do.
The quick answer
- 2026 dates: not published yet. In 2025 they were online by mid October.
- Only the Christmas fortnight changes. Fareham empties bins on the usual day on every other bank holiday of the year.
- Last year the free Christmas tree collection ran 5 to 16 January, for every household, not just garden waste subscribers.
Why 2026 will look different from last year
The bank holidays land on different days this time. In England, Christmas Day is Friday 25 December 2026, the Boxing Day bank holiday moves to a substitute Monday 28 December, and New Year’s Day is Friday 1 January 2027 (GOV.UK).
In 2025 the holidays fell on a Thursday, Friday and Thursday, so last year’s table cannot simply be moved forward a day. Friday and Monday collections are the ones most likely to shift this year, because three of the four closed days are Fridays or Mondays. Wait for the council’s own table before assuming your day.
What Fareham did at Christmas 2025
These are last year’s dates, not this year’s. They show how the council handles the fortnight: missed days move to the next working day, and the knock-on clears by the first full week of January. Fareham empties one type of bin each week, so check the table for the bin that is due that week.
| Usual day | Revised day |
|---|---|
| Thu 25 Dec | Mon 29 Dec |
| Fri 26 Dec | Mon 29 Dec |
| Mon 29 Dec | Tue 30 Dec |
| Tue 30 Dec | Wed 31 Dec |
| Wed 31 Dec | Wed 31 Dec (no change) |
| Thu 1 Jan | Fri 2 Jan |
| Fri 2 Jan | Mon 5 Jan |
| Mon 5 Jan | Mon 5 Jan (no change) |
| Tue 6 Jan | Tue 6 Jan (no change) |
| Usual day | Revised day |
|---|---|
| Thu 25 Dec | Mon 29 Dec |
| Fri 26 Dec | Tue 30 Dec |
| Mon 29 Dec | Tue 30 Dec |
| Tue 30 Dec | Wed 31 Dec |
| Wed 31 Dec | Fri 2 Jan |
| Thu 1 Jan | Fri 2 Jan |

| Mon 5 Jan | Tue 6 Jan |
| Tue 6 Jan | Tue 6 Jan (no change) |
Both tables are read from the council’s page as archived on 11 October 2025. Notice the two bins did not move in step: a Wednesday 31 December recycling collection went to Friday 2 January while the refuse bin that day was emptied on time. That is the detail to check for your own street when the 2026 table appears.
The council also asked residents to put bins out by 6am on the collection morning, or the evening before, which is the standing rule all year.
Garden waste stops for Christmas
Garden waste collections pause over the holiday. The council says 2026 dates “will be confirmed nearer Christmas”.
Last year the stop date moved after it was first published. The page read “Friday 12 December” in October 2025 and “Friday 19 December” by early 2026, with the restart on Monday 5 January 2026 both times (archived October 2025, archived March 2026). If you subscribe, check the date again in December rather than relying on the first version.
Christmas trees
For 2025/26 Fareham offered a free Christmas tree collection to all households between 5 and 16 January 2026. The tree had to be left whole and outside by 5 January. Garden waste subscribers left theirs next to the garden waste bin; everyone else looked up a separate tree collection day on the council’s site.
That free collection is not yet confirmed for January 2027. The council’s current page describes only the subscriber route, and in the same paragraph tells you both to leave the tree whole and that trees “must be broken up and placed inside the garden waste bin”. Until the 2026 details are published, the safe reading is that only subscribers are covered.
You can also take a real tree to the tip: the Segensworth recycling centre puts them in the green waste container. Opening hours and the booking rule are on our Fareham tip page.
The tip over Christmas
Hampshire’s recycling centres are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and open every other day, but only with a booked slot (Hampshire County Council). In 2026 the Boxing Day bank holiday is Monday 28 December; Hampshire’s wording says “Boxing Day” without saying which of the two dates it means, so check the booking system before planning a trip on either.
Still to be confirmed
- The 2026/27 refuse and recycling tables: expected October 2026, going by last year.
- Garden waste stop and restart dates: “nearer Christmas”.
- Whether the free tree collection for every household runs again in January 2027.
